Yet to Read Good Omens

Yet to Read Good Omens

Yet to Read is the weekly meme where I take a look at books on my shelves (physical and digital) that I haven’t gotten around to reading yet and books on my wishlist that I’ve wanted to add to my shelves for a while. I will link these posts up to Can’t Wait Wednesday and Shelf Control, depending on where each week’s post fits best!

For this week’s Yet to Read, I thought I’d take a look through my bookshelves and with the announcement of a season 2 for the Good Omens show, it reminded me that it really is about time I read the book.

I picked up this really cool hardcover edition of Good Omens from Gollancz a few years back and it has remained on my shelves. However, I know how beloved Neil and Terry’s story is and so… perhaps I’ll get to it pretty soon? I have added it to the little table by my reading chair so we shall see if I’m in the right mood for it when I get there.

Have you read Good Omens? Looking forward to season 2 of the series? Let’s chat in the comments!

    1. Hah. Was coming to make a very similar comment to your second half. Pleasantly surprised there will be a Season 2, but will have to get around to actually finishing Season 1 now. 🙂

I feel like a re-read of my favourite Discword books is going to have to happen at some point now, too.

  1. It took someone doing a close reading of a page of Terry Prachett in my literature class to open my eyes to how devilishly clever his humor was. A twist, satire, clever nudge or some other reference to fantasy tropes practically every paragraph. Previously, I’d been just skimming by the Discworld novels for surface level entertainment.

Neil Gaiman meanwhile practically drips literary references and channels an entire ‘mysterious old gods’ mythos in whatever he writes.

Both of them together is double the fun and double the cleverness. I’d say just aim for reading a page or two of Good Omens and get started. Couldn’t hurt. 🙂

  2. I am in the minority, Good Omens is one of my least liked Terry books and I’m going to blame Gaiman for that, because I’ve not really been able to get into his adult books. I watched a bit of the TV show and liked it more than the book (I know, heresy) so maybe I will finish that off.

  3. I watched all of season 1 and haven’t read the book yet but oh my gosh, there’s going to be a season 2??? That’s awesome! Guess I’ll have to move this one up on my TBR. Honestly, I thought it all ended with season 1 LOL.

    Happy reading!
