Weekend Wrap-Up: Many Deadlines!

Weekend Wrap-Up: Many Deadlines!

The Weekend Wrap-Up offers a little look at what I’m reading, the new books that came my way, and anything else I may have gotten up to this past week. I will be linking up to Stacking the ShelvesThe Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? and hopping around your blogs a little to see what the community has to share too! This past week I found myself with many deadlines, fingers crossed for me!

My Week

After the party last Friday, I was exhausted for like 2-3 days but I got some solid sleep in and came back around. Sadly, a couple nights of insomnia mid-week means my sleep is trying super hard to be nocturnal right now, though I’m doing my best to keep on track somewhat. It’s not easy… Managed it though, kind of, and yesterday met the new therapist who seems nice. I’m still a little sad I had to switch but it is what it is. So we’re looking at ways to help me make new habits with that. I’m giving Habitica a try and maybe using podcasts or audiobooks to help, though it’s tough with the fatigue and pain but we gotta try. It is scary but hopefully it helps. It would be a lot easier if I could sleep solid hours rather than in 3-hour chunks but let’s see.

Reading

I got another book with a deadline this week (mid next month) so I’m going to be reading a lot. I did get pretty into Empire in Black and Gold, it’s starting to really pick up! I’m enjoying it a lot. A little later in the week, I also started The Chronicles of Iona: Exile as I need to review that fairly soon. It’s tough with the exhaustion but I like it so far. There are little snippets of Celtic culture, and high kings and exile and some beautiful language. My jam.

Watching

It has been a bit since I watched Critical Role, I’m behind on Exandria Unlimited, but this week saw Ashley Johnson finally step into the GM seat for a sci-fi survival horror one shot and I’m definitely here for some one shot action right now. That’s been a lot of fun to watch, though I still haven’t completed it.

I found myself needing an easy watch with how tired I’ve been so started on The Circle series 3 on Netflix which is always a good time, even if I do find myself stressing over the catfish. Haha.

Playing

Spent some time prepping my D&D game for Wednesday, and I’m super proud of what I did (the puzzle and map, in particular). We didn’t get to play in the end as one of the players had a migraine but the rest of us hung out, chatted, played a little Jackbox and Gartic Phone. I have a game on Sunday with my other group which has been hanging on a cliffhanger for a few weeks and I’m eager to see what happens next!! The last thing that happened was the Druid offering a defeated and tied up guard to the crazed creature they came across in the dungeon, and right as the creature went to eat the poor man alive, throwing down with a magical attack. It’s been weeks, you guys. Aaaaa.

A little earlier in the week, I got to play some Phasmophobia with some new people! That was fun. I ended up joining their Discord server and hopefully, we can play again some time. Thanks Magi for inviting me to play, it was awesome.

Weekend Wrap-Up: Many Deadlines!

I’ve also been playing a little Final Fantasy XIV in my cravings for New World. Two very different games but at least it’s an MMORPG! Right now the FFXV event is running, which is making me wanna play that game a bit, which I suppose is the point. I’m trying to get the car mount tied to the event. I don’t really like it, I doubt I’ll use it even, but it’s a limited-time item so I must have it! I’m terrible. I also pick up the Fatter Cat mount and the Magpie because they’re hecking adorable.

Weekend Wrap-Up: Many Deadlines!

Last but not least, my friend introduced me to how to play Dead By Daylight. It’s a lot of fun but there’s always a background anxiety when playing with PUGs. PvP makes me hella nervous.

Listening

I started listening to an acoustic women playlist on Spotify, that was nice and gentle. Very little else this week though I did add a few more albums to my “listen to this” playlist.

On The Blog

Another quiet week. My apologies, but you already know why!

Incoming

Two this week! I yoinked Tender Is the Flesh for Kindle which sounds like a horrifying dystopian horror. It’s about humanity’s move to cannibalism when a pandemic makes all animals on the planet inedible, basically. I think I’ve heard good things about it, as well. And The Twelve Wishes of Christmas was a late approval from NetGalley. I wasn’t expecting it at this point but I guess we can anticipate a review of at least one Christmas rom-com this year!

Next Week

I’d like to read through The Chronicles of Iona: Exile and get a start on A Wrinkle in Time. I’ll also be working on my CBT goals and probably gaming some now that I’m in the mood for it.

How about you? How have your weeks been? Reading anything good? Got up to anything interesting? I’d love to hear what you’re all getting up to in the comments!

  1. I pray that with help from your new therapist and using Habitca, you will be able to get a better handle on your insomnia. 🙏 I find the Calm app very helpful for my anxiety and sleep.

As for my week it has mainly been work and early nights, except for a well deserved hair cut. 💇‍♀️ I have also continued to enjoy working my way through Miracles by C.S. Lewis. Take care and happy reading! 😃

    1. Awww, thank you. ^^ I liked what I saw from Calm just having unlocked the paid for parts. I use a lot of ASMR and Youtube meditation but some nights it just doesn’t work.

Glad you’ve had some nice reading! 😀

    1. Yeah.. I’m not convinced it will any time soon but we can only try! And me too. Why is cannibalism so fascinating, in that “oh god I hate it but I can’t look away” kind of way? 🙈 I remember listening to a true crime case about a cannibal and I just had to know more but it put me off meatballs for a while…

  2. Good luck with the new therapies, hopefully the go some way to improving your sleep patterns.

The cat is so adorable, I wouldn’t have been able to resist either!

Enjoy your reading, I love the sound of Tender is the Flesh, even if it is a bit creepy too.

  3. Publishers are so early with their Christmas books. I had a request last month for a blog tour for a festive book…with the tour being this month. I can’t bring myself to be festive just yet, though I guess I have booked my turkey already. My birthday is in November so I have a rule of no Christmas stuff till after then!
